Abstract
Background: Malignant mixed mullerian tumor (MMMT), a carcinoma of the uterus, is a bi-phasic tumor composed of malignant epithelial and mesenchymal components. The treatment of MMMT remains a challenge despite advances in technology. This study is a preliminary investigation of the potential use of high power lightemitting diode (HPLED) modules as an alternative to laser therapy for cancer treatment.
Methods: This study used 656 and 850 nm HPLEDs at 50 mW power output within a non-thermal range duration. The viability and proliferation of the cells were analyzed after irradiation with the HPLEDs.
Results: A significant reduction in cancer cell viability was observed after irradiation with either the 656 or 850 nm HPLED.
Conclusion: This study shows the potential use of HPLEDs for cancer treatment.
